+ THE CROW +

The Crow. What a fabulous movie. Probably one of the most controversial movies of the decade. Filled with love, anger, and excellent directing (Alex Proyas), this movie sends a message that is distinct to everyone; and to everyone this message is different. To me, it was that life isn't so bad. Then again, when I first saw it in 1994, I was only eleven years old and in the sixth grade. But I've had plenty of time to think it over since then, and I'm glad that for my birthday, I decided to see The Crow instead of The Flintstones.

The Crow is a story about a young couple living in Detroit who are engaged to be married on October 31st. Yep, Halloween. But the night before, their appartment was raided by a gang of thugs. Their "excuse" is that Shelly, the woman, submitted a petition against tenant eviction. When the four thugs (T-Bird, Funboy, Tin-Tin and Skank) break in, only Shelly is home. But when her fiancee Eric arrives home from grocery shopping, Tin-Tin brings him down with a knife. They each finish their turn with Shelly, and go back to the near-dead Eric. They hold him up by his arms, and T-Bird gives him one last shot in the chest. Then he's thrown from the fourth-floor window and dies on impact with the street.

A year later, Eric returns from the grave, and not quite sure where or who he is at first, follows a strange crow back to his former loft. He remembers, albeit painful and difficult, the night before his wedding. He finds some cool black clothes and goes to find the ones who screwed with him.
